Original Meetup Group Description:

“The lion is the hunted until she tells her tale.” – African Proverb

Karibuni kijiji cha Wanawake cha Mayet! / Welcome to Mayet Women’s Village!

Mayet is the Ancient Egyptian goddess of universal order and represents ideas such as justice, harmony, reciprocity, and complements.

Mayet Village is a casual community for African-American women to share training, ask questions, and socialize (online and in-person) around safe & competent gun ownership for competition, recreation, and self-defense. This is a space for African-American cultural awareness as well as personal & community preparedness.

What we do at events:

This is a casual group; I’m going to post local training and share bits of my own learning journey, such as,

  • Pictures from the range
  • certification attempts
  • upcoming training of relevance
  • family training events
  • competitions & intros to competitive shooting
  • training that I am attending
  • invitations to train together
  • range drills & exercises
  • helpful gun stuff
  • Black Americans & Guns in U.S. History
  • Modern Black gun communities/organizations
  • and more

I hope to see you share the same!

How to use this community:

This is a space for introverts & extroverts, for folks wanting to train together and for those wanting to train primarily alone (I say “primarily” because for community preparedness, we have to train together on occasion). Ask questions & share! If you don’t feel very confident, just post photos of what you’re up to and/or something you’ve learned.

Events will be posted here on Meetup and in the Mayet Village Facebook Group. Feel free to choose the platform that suits you best.

The 4 Basic Rules of Firearms Safety:

1. The gun is always loaded. If it is not loaded, read this rule again.

2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

3. Never point the barrel of your firearm at anything that you are not willing to damage, wound, or destroy.

4. Always know your target and what is beyond your target (for example, livestock are grazing behind the stump on which you placed your tin can).

*DISCLAIMER: This is casual group for gun safety and shooting competence. Neither I nor Mayet Village are affiliated with any gun courses, groups, organizations, or training providers shared in this group. In the event that I or Mayet Village is partnered with a training or provider, this will be clearly disclosed. Guns are dangerous. Members participate at their own risk and might be required to sign an additional waiver prior to participating in group events.
